National’s Hamish Walker was a clear winner in the Clutha-Southland electorate on Saturday night.

Walker held the seat with an election-night majority of 13,005 votes.

A significant amount of funding is going into several local projects to help children learn about using computers.

The programmes are being run out of the Dunedin Gasworks Museum.

The average income of New Zealanders appears to be increasing.

Each year Statistics New Zealand surveys 30,000 people in the June quarter.

This year the median weekly income from wages and salaries increased 2.3% to $863.

The average weekly income increased 3% to $991.

Median hourly earnings increased 1.7% to almost $22.

And average hourly earnings increased 3% to $26.78.

Labour candidates retain Dunedins vote

National may have won the election, but Labour candidates have retained Dunedin's vote.

David Clark and Clare Curran will again represent Dunedin North and Dunedin South for the next three years.

But with National's increasing dominance over the party vote in Dunedin, both sides are celebrating.

Prime Minister John Key made a fleeting visit to Dunedin this morning, just four days out from the general election.

He visited Silver Fern Farms, then fronted a media stand-up about surveillance.

Key addressed the current allegations of mass surveillance and spying, brought to the fore by opponent Kim Dotcom.

Key rubbished Dotcom's claims as nothing but rhetoric, and maintains that ordinary New Zealanders are not being spied on.

From Dunedin he travelled on to Christchurch.
