Bill angers Otago Polytechnic Students Association
The Polytechnics Amendment Bill, recently passed by Government, has angered the Otago Polytechnic Students Association.
The bill has removed guaranteed student representation on polytechnic councils.
OPSA president Meegan Cloughley slams the move, calling it a step back to last century.
She says students have a right to have a seat at the table that decides their fees, the policies of the institution, and the quality of teaching.
However, the Government sees the bill as a way to improve the effectiveness of polytechnic councils, and to allow greater Crown control when responding to performance issues.
