Police left with unusual job
Police have been left with an unusual new job - closing doors and windows of houses left wide open when nobody is home.
The issue is another aspect of the influx of students in Dunedin.
Police say they are finding houses across North Dunedin open and unattended.
The issue appears to be occurring when students leave their flats for an event.
The empty houses are a magnet for criminals, with most students owning laptops and iPhones.
Police have been closing doors and windows as they patrol the area, but have called for a greater awareness of security.
