A controversial anti-women group is encouraging supporters to hold public meetings around the world, including in Dunedin.

The leader of American internet group Return of Kings says public meetings will be held in 45 different countries on Saturday.

One such meeting is reportedly being held outside the Dunedin Town Hall.

The group is making international headlines for its extreme anti-women stance.

Dunedin residents are among those condemning the group and its leader through social media.

It's not known whether the group has any local supporters, or if a meeting will be held in the city.

The list of planned meetings also includes events in Auckland and Wellington.
