An almost 100-year-old memorial arch is to be demolished.

The Moller Park monument in Ravensbourne honours long-serving former mayor, councillor and harbour board member Hagbarth Ernest Moller.

Today the city council's community and environment committee voted to have the arch demolished.

A new memorial will be built and erected near the harbourside cycling and walking path.

The move follows community concern about the cost of repairing and maintaining the existing structure.

It also presents visibility problems for road users.

The new memorial will be designed before the arch is removed.
