Infrastructure company Downer is making 33 staff redundant.

The majority are based in Dunedin at the firm's construction division.

The Amalgamated Workers Union says all affected employees had to reapply for their jobs.

Downer says staff have been notified of individual outcomes for each role.

There hasn't been any negotiations over redundancy packages, as workers are covered by a collective agreement.

Downer confirmed it was restructuring at the beginning of the month.
