Almost $50,000 is being awarded to three local business entrepreneurs.

The money from Chorus and Alcatel-Lucent is part of the city's Gigatown win.

It's going towards projects by entrepreneurs using gigabit internet speed.

Projects include a new internet storage platform, a hazard identification app, and a learning programme for dyslexic children.

There's $200,000 available in the Gig-Start Fund.

Applications open for the second round of grants at the end of the month.
