Police are investigating the burglary and vandalism of the Royal Albatross Centre, which has staff reeling.

Two people allegedly broke into the centre, at the tip of Otago Peninsula, in the middle of the night between Friday and Saturday.

They smashed three computer screens, forced open tills and stole $600 in cash.

Thieves also damaged two mobility scooters on the property.

Staff are assessing damage and say the centre, which is fully insured, will remain open.

Police will review CCTV footage to identify suspects.
