There's increasing concern about the spread of measles in Dunedin schools, following several outbreaks in the North Island.

The Southern DHB is reminding parents of school aged children that vaccinations need to be up to date to prevent the spread of the disease.

A handful of local schools have asked parents to check their measles, mumps and rubella vaccination records, and in some cases supply copies to the school.

One Dunedin high school has advised that pupils may be sent home if they present with possible symptoms and can't provide proof of vaccination.
