The Otago SPCA is still on lock-down after an outbreak of ringworm that's mainly affecting cats.

The SPCA site in Opoho has been closed for the past six days and staff say they expect it to remain closed until the 9th of July.

A vet is due to inspect the animals tomorrow, to scan them with a special light that can determine if current medication is working.

The quarantine stems from concern that children cuddling infected animals could also become infected.

The disease is contagious but treatable.
