Almost 250 Dunedin people have written submissions on the Government's Petroleum Block Offer, as the DCC puts together its views on the subject.

The council recently sought community input as it prepared its response to the issue.

The Petroleum Block Offer is the way the Government enables petroleum companies to bid for exploration rights to New Zealand's oil and gas resources.

With exploration under way off the Otago coast, the DCC says the topic has generated significant public interest.

The council has to deliver its submission to the Government by November the 14th.
